Trader Joe’s offers a wide variety of gourmet, imported, organic and locally grown grocery products to its customers. It strives to not only supply the best products possible, but to also provide them at the low prices. Their customers are individuals and families who appreciate the “neighborhood grocer”; those who prefer locally grown and organic products, as well as exotic tastes from around the world, at affordable prices. Originally started in California, Trader Joe’s now has locations in more than 15 states across the US, and growing. Trader Joe’s marketing strategy is to emphasize the quality and diversity of their products, and by cutting out the middle man whenever possible, it can offer lower prices to it’s customers. They have smaller stores, making the shopping experience more personal and over time, create strong customer relationships and loyalties. Trader Joe’s is a

privately owned company, where management focuses on keeping prices for customers as low as possible. Employees are personable and understand customers’ wants and needs. Trader Joe’s strives to be local compared to a big corporate company. Other small grocery stores, which provide local grown and natural products, are the primary competition Trader Joe’s is up against. Larger, commercial stores such as Albertson’s and Safeway are competing for business as well. As far as marketing, Trader Joe’s offers natural, local and imported groceries at affordable places in a variety of locations around the Unites States. They advertise on the radio, and send out a monthly newsletter informing customers of specials and seasonal products or promotions that will happen throughout the month. They also sponsor food donations and work with local athletic teams to help with the fight against hunger.
